BBM Messenger Partners with Ariiyatickets to Offer Event Tickets Service to Users in Nigeria

New Service inside BBM Discover Enables In-App Ticket Purchase for Local Concerts and Other Events

Lagos, Nigeria – July 24, 2017 – Creative Media Works, operating as BBM, today launches Event Tickets inside Discover with partner, Ariiyatickets. The service allows Nigerians to browse for local concerts and events, and purchase tickets in advance – all without leaving the messaging app.

Ariiyatickets, similar to other Nigerian BBM Discover partners, uses the Interswitch mobile checkout feature developed for BBM Messenger. First time users are only required to set up their account once with their debit card and they can immediately transact on other services on Discover such as Quickteller Airtime Top-Up, Money Transfer and Paycode (used for cardless ATM withdrawal), and Movie Tickets.

Digital tickets are increasing in popularity, especially among millennials, who rely on their phones more than any other age group. According to the World Factbook, Nigeria has no shortage of them, with a majority of the population under 25 years old. Going digital means users can skip the line, purchase tickets in advance, and transact in a streamlined, mobile-friendly experience with secured payment within BBM Messenger.

BBM Messenger is one of the largest mobile messaging applications in the world. Since it was created in August 2005, BBM has evolved from a pure messaging application for communication (text and video) to a social ecosystem unifying chat, social, commerce, content and services including bill payment, top-up, vouchers/coupons, news, games, comics, video, shopping, travel, career, sports and polls.

“Nigerians have been enthusiastically adopting new mobile services for years,” said Matthew Talbot, CEO of Creative Media Works, the company which operates and runs BBM globally. “Event Tickets adds to our growing portfolio of in-app services that make daily life easier, more convenient and more entertaining for our large and active user base in Nigeria.”

Elsie Oluku CRO of Ariiyatickets.com said, “We are excited to be a part of this awesome innovation. The partnership with BBM Messenger provides us with a simple, convenient way to publicize events and sell tickets to a broad socially connected audience.”

Billaway and BBM Messenger Further Extends BBM Rewards to Four New Territories

BBM Messenger Users in Malaysia, Nigeria, Singapore and the UK Can Earn Free Mobile Airtime and Other Rewards by Responding to Surveys and Other Activities

Singapore, July 6, 2017 – Following the series of successful launches with BBM Messenger in South Africa, the U.S. and Canada, Billaway, a U.S. based marketing technology company that enables mobile phone consumers the ability to earn rewards, today further extends BBM Rewards with Creative Media Works, which operates as BBM, for consumers across Android and iOS platforms in Malaysia, Nigeria, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

BBM Messenger users across the four markets can now earn mobile airtime or gift cards via BBM Rewards when they engage in surveys and other activities. Free mobile airtime is available to anyone who uses the BBM Messenger application, which can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android smartphones. To participate in the service, the user simply clicks on ‘Rewards’ in the BBM Discover menu within BBM Messenger.

The technology used for this service relies on Billaway’s marketing platform, which can be integrated seamlessly into any mobile application. Since launching in South Africa two months ago, BBM Messenger users are saving up to 80% of their monthly airtime bill via BBM Rewards.

BBM Rewards enables market research firms, polls and survey companies to seek consumer insights on a variety of topics such as sports, beauty, politics, food, technology and more.

“Consumers’ opinions on important issues, current events, products and services are very valuable to organizations providing market research, polls and surveys. With BBM Rewards, you can now trade your thoughts and opinions for free mobile airtime, gaming credits or even tickets to local attractions,” explains Paul Harkins, CEO of Billaway. “BBM Rewards is an easy, fun and best of all, cost-free way to lower your mobile bill and reduce costs on daily expenses.”

BBM Messenger is one of the largest mobile messaging applications in the world. Since it was created in August 2005, BBM has evolved from a free messaging application for communication (text and video) to a social eco-system unifying chat, social, commerce and services including bill payment, top-up, vouchers/coupons, news, games, comics, video, shopping, travel, career, sports and polls.

According to Matthew Talbot, CEO of Creative Media Works, the company, which operates and runs BBM globally, “We’ve been busy adding a ton of new services to the BBM Discover menu that we know BBM users are interested to use in their daily lives. We are focusing on working with best-in-breed partners like Billaway to provide an enriched experience within BBM, giving users more compelling reasons to share BBM content and services with their friends and family.”

STAGE360 Mobile Music and Content Service Launches on BBM Messenger

South African Market Ready to Benefit from Enhanced, Interactive Platform Technology

Johannesburg, South Africa – 5 July, 2017 – Stream.Digital in partnership with Creative Media Works, operating as BBM Messenger, today announced the launch of STAGE360 Music, a mobile music and content service. The service, a first of its kind in South Africa, is aimed at growing BBM Messenger’s monthly active users particularly within the young, urban demographic.

Matthew Talbot, CEO of Creative Media Works, the company which operates and runs BBM Messenger globally said that the launch of STAGE360 Music comes at a time when the role of messaging platforms in consumer and business life is set to grow exponentially. “As part of the ongoing roll out of the new and improved app, BBM Messenger will offer a content ecosystem over and above the core chat experience and drive engagement within its Discover menu and Channels.”

BBM Discover is a high-valued space within BBM Messenger, designed for high impact and reach while giving partners access to the power of social chat. STAGE360 Music sits as an icon within BBM Discover’s existing ecosystem of content and services, accompanying categories such as News, DiscoverTV (soccer, kids, life, planet, animals, extreme, fitness, food, cars), Football365 (Live Scores), Channels, Rewards (win airtime), Subscriptions, Stickers, Games and many more to come.

“This service takes into account the evolution of social media and the popularity of messaging apps as the go-to place in the digital environment. STAGE360 Music is a particular example of how we can give potential artists the tools, functionality and features to create a profile, share their music, and engage with their fans in an organic social environment,” Talbot explained.

The service is integrated into BBM Messenger using seamless user sign-in with both initial authentication and ongoing authentication to the user’s ID. Enriched social experiences are then delivered through personalisation of content and social sharing within the service. Stream.Digital, a division of Mortimer Harvey (Pty) Ltd, provides a direct-to-market digital video streaming platform with live and on-demand video content delivery to mobile and web. In addition, the service offers a Programmatic Channel Post functionality where users can manage and create channel posts directly via a programmatic interface.

STAGE360 and BBM Discover’s broader range of services demonstrates how messaging platforms can be harnessed to develop new ways of consuming, sharing and creating content. It offers users a new tool to easily navigate and find their preferred content within the BBM Channel.

“Music is just the first of the STAGE360 categories that BBM Messenger intends to launch. The goal is to create other categories that will fall under the 360 service such as comedy, short film and fashion,” says Talbot.

STAGE360 Music Launches on BBM Messenger

Market First Mobile Music Service for the Urban Youth Exclusively on BBM

Johannesburg, South Africa – 5 July, 2017 – Stream.Digital in partnership with Creative Media Works, operating as BBM Messenger, today announced the launch of STAGE360 Music, a South African first mobile music and content service. Designed for the urban market, this 360° view into music and urban culture, is completely mobile, social and live.

Artists and fans alike simply need to download BBM Messenger – offered free from any App store on Android or iOS devices – to access STAGE360[1] from the BBM Messenger Discover menu.

The concept of STAGE360 is to empower musical youth within South Africa, says STAGE360 Founder, Julian von Plato: “We have identified the best possible partnerships to reach this goal and ensure dreams become reality. BBM Messenger’s content and services target the urban youth market with its robust technology platform and social community, making it the perfect home for STAGE360. With the support of BBM Messenger and our media partners, the service gives everyone the opportunity to engage with the youth.”

Within a three-month cycle, 20 artists will be selected, provided with challenges and six will go through to perform at South Africa’s top events across the country. One final artist will receive a produced single and music video that will be distributed across the STAGE360 network of partners. They will also receive their own channel on BBM. This cycle of finding South Africa’s best talent will be repeated each quarter.

STAGE360 Music sits as an icon within BBM Messenger’s Discover ecosystem of content and services. It is accompanied by categories such as News, DiscoverTV (soccer, kids, life, planet, animals, extreme, fitness, food, cars), Football365 (Live Scores), Rewards, Channels, Subscriptions, Stickers, Games and many more to come.

Music fans can quickly and easily browse all uploaded content on STAGE360 Music including access to exclusive events, artist video uploads, interviews, highlights, vlogs, behind the scenes footage, and more. For the artists, once identified, they will begin their journey towards exposure, development, live performances, mentorship and revenue opportunities, enabling them to pursue their dreams in the music industry. These artists will then be amplified across multiple other digital and social platforms to provide exposure to a wider audience, including MTN Play, Slikour onLife, TRACE TV digital, and other sponsored platforms.

Matthew Talbot, CEO of Creative Media Works, the company which operates and runs BBM Messenger globally said that STAGE360 Music is dedicated to aspiration and empowerment of our youth, offering a new service dedicated to discovery and development through a pool of established artists and scouts that include Slikour onLife and TRACE Urban South Africa: ”STAGE360 is unlike any other music service available. It is not a music competition that comes and goes, but instead provides a long term solution for musicians to sustain their careers connecting with their fans in an engaged environment.”

As part of the ongoing roll out of the new and improved app, BBM Messenger now offers far more than just chat. It has become the ideal social network to drive artist and fan engagement within its Discover menu and Channels. “We are providing artists the tools, functionality and features to create a profile, share their music and engage with their fans in an organic social environment, something that is missing locally,” Talbot explained.

Siya Metane aka Slikour explains why he got behind this project. “The Slikour onLife platform was built for marginalised artists who find solace in digital. BBM Messenger’s objectives are aligned with all the reasons that we wake up and do what we do on our site. We see it as an additional platform to widen the voice of the artists.”

Leo Manne, Senior Vice President, Trace Southern Africa says one of their key objectives as TRACE is the support and development of our entertainment industry through shows such as #BTB (Bout To Blow). “This service is geared at giving undiscovered but promising acts a good look. The partnership with STAGE360 is an extension and an enabler to achieve this. We have been encouraged by the kind of feedback we’ve already received from developing and established artists alike, regarding this initiative. We look forward to unearthing the next generations’ icons together with BBM Messenger.”

BBM Releases Puzzle Game “Word Space with BBM” in Indonesia

screenshot_20161129-084408

BBM releases “Word Space with BBM”, a brain-teasing word puzzle game where your mission is to find the hidden words and connect them using your fingers.

Available for download on Android devices, you can continue to play the game even when your devices are on airplane mode!

Have you been struggling in puzzle games previously as you advance to higher levels? Word Space with BBM has moderated its difficulty so you won’t find the upper levels too tough, while expanding your vocabulary as you search for hidden words, providing endless fun with over 400 stages!

This surprisingly addictive game will suck you in and blast your freedom away. Get your friends and family on BBM to download from Google Play today.

Popularity of Games Confirms Strategy to Bring More Content, Services and Brands to BBM

Games have arrived in BBM—and in a big way. We launched the first, Fruits Mania with BBM (for Android), at the beginning of the month in Indonesia, our biggest market. It was a huge hit, to the tune of 100,000 downloads in the first few days! It quickly became one of the top five games on Google Play.

Two weeks later, we released Rogue Life with BBM, also in Indonesia. We saw a similarly enthusiastic response and we will be launching one game every two weeks until the end of the year.

Both games offer single-player and multi-player options, so you can ace all the levels yourself, or invite your friends and family to join in the fun via BBM. Download the free-to-play games, Fruits Mania and Rogue Life, on Google Play.

Chat, games and news drive mobile usage

This is great confirmation of our ongoing strategy of bringing content and services to BBM. Studies show that people spend the bulk of their time on mobile doing three things: chatting, playing games, and reading news. So, we’re bringing games, news, and other useful content to chat.

The numbers we’re seeing in terms of engagement with gaming on the BBM platform backs up the fact that we are spending more time on messaging apps—even more than we’re spending on social media.

In the news department, our own BBM Life news and video channel launched over the summer. The channel from Indonesian TV new program Liputan6.com (C002EC21B) brings regular updates to millions of subscribers.

Next, we’re gearing up to extend both games and news beyond Indonesia to our other markets globally.

Brands can fill the marketing “gap” on mobile

It’s fairly common knowledge that when it comes to the internet, our activity and engagement is moving to mobile. Every year, we shop more on mobile. (Alibaba reported that 82% of its biggest-shopping-day Single’s Day sales came from mobile this year, up from 72% last year.) We bank more on mobile, book travel on mobile, use mobile GPS, pay with our phones… Our mobiles have become indispensable tools for so many different things. Studies show we’re spending hours a day with our devices—and often two to three times as long as we think.

What’s more, recent research shows that more people share content via “dark media,” (email and messaging apps), than on social media: 77% to 23%.

Clearly, mobile messaging is the place to be. Yet marketers and brands have been slow to adopt in mainstream. There’s currently a gap between the number of people and amount of activity on messaging apps and the marketers there to meet them. In BBM, we’ve been working with a few pioneering brands, but we’re hoping more will see the writing on the wall, and want to catch up with consumers in messaging apps via their own content, games, stickers, videos and more. There are so many opportunities. With mobile penetration and usage rates in our biggest markets continuing to climb, those opportunities only get bigger.

Coming soon: shopping and travel

Speaking of opportunity, we’re taking our own advice! We’ll be launching two new services in Indonesia next month: BBM Shopping and BBM Travel. We’ll let you know more shortly. For now, rest assured that we’re hard at work to make BBM your favorite platform, and the center of your digital life.

Built into BBM, this service allows you to make payments and purchases seamlessly inside BBM by securely storing your credit card or bank transfer information, plus your shipping details the first time you use it. Then, you never have to enter the information again! Just tap to pay, and BBM Checkout will use the information on file, making it a fast, easy, seamless and convenient way to pay for transactions on-the-go.

Discover BBM

We’re transforming BBM from a messaging app into an ecosystem where commerce and services can take place very easily between stakeholders. In the coming phase, more features will be added to enable peer-to-peer services such as sending a voucher to a BBM contact through chat and social.

In addition to the news and video services, airtime top-up, bill pay as well as money transfer services that we’ve added to the BBM Discover menu, we’ll soon be launching our BBM Game Center and BBM Shopping. In the coming months, we’ll be adding even more content and services in Indonesia, and our other BBM markets around the world. Discover BBM today!

BBM Chatbot API Coming in Early 2017

I’m already looking forward to 2017. Early next year, we’re going to open up a chatbot application programming interface (API) for BBM. It will enable new and existing businesses on BBM with a conversational interface complementing what we offer with channels & discover services.

We think chatbots represent an extension of how we already interact with others via messaging, to now secure services, get answers, and complete tasks. (If you’re wondering what a chatbot is, here’s a good primer from Chatbots Magazine.)

The apps wars are over. Messaging won.

I’ve seen so much data this year showing that the era of the app is coming to an end. People are installing fewer apps on their phones. For the few they are downloading, they only open most of them once. People really only “heavily use” about 5 apps.

What are those few apps? Messaging consistently tops the charts. BBM is a perfect example: Once people install it, they keep it and use. We have one of the lowest uninstall rates of apps globally.

Messaging apps have now surpassed social media in the amount of time we spend on them.

Bots are the next phase of evolution in messaging

People are clearly spending their mobile time in messaging apps. That’s where they want to be. That’s where we can offer valuable services, and that’s where brands can reach them.

This is where chatbots come in. They work inside messaging apps to provide useful services via conversation-based interactions.

Let’s say you just saw a post in your feed from an eCommerce provider, whose channel you subscribed to, and you are curious to get more details. One option is to go search on the web try to locate that deal, and maybe even call them via the phone. All very cumbersome. Whereas with a bot capability, you could simply send a message to the business inquiring about the item with the item number. The business is now able to respond automatically to the request, without involving a human. And if the conversation goes beyond the capabilities of the bot, it can be routed to a contact center person. What is important to note is that the whole interaction took place in messaging, and the person never had to leave or go outside the messaging app environs. This amalgamation is what makes bots so exciting and powerful.

Certainly, there are much simpler use cases too. You want to find out the exchange rates for the day. A simple message to an exchange rate bot can deliver answers quickly.

Easier and faster for consumers

For consumers, chatbots offer a better solution than apps for a number of reasons. First, there’s no need to find, download, install and maintain dozens of apps on your phone for all the services you regularly use. The bots are simply there when you want them.

Second, bots let customers ask for what they want and get it faster. By combining search technology with a natural language interface, bots can save a lot of scrolling time.

Third, when consumers have the choice, most prefer self-service channels to talking with a representative. This study found that 64% of consumers would prefer to use texting over voice as a customer service channel. This is especially true for millennials. Chatbots really offer the best of both worlds here, providing a 24/7, fast, language-based service that doesn’t require waiting on hold or engaging with a real person. They are also “available” for follow-up questions in a way that other self-service channels are not.

More cost-efficient for businesses

For businesses, chatbots are a simpler alternative than building or maintaining an app. It’s easier to enable services through an already-established ecosystem like a social network or messaging app than to build and market your own. And what may be more important is that chatbots can make it fun to engage with a brand.

From the business standpoint, chatbots offer a much less expensive solution than paying people to instant message with customers. Of course, people will always do a better job with some tasks, but bots can answer simple questions faster than people, and even send links, pictures, or videos to further explain.

Chatbots can also encourage interaction with content, such as news or entertainment. And as mentioned above, they can also help with productivity by offering easy ways to make purchases, call for transportation, schedule deliveries, order food or any number of other things.

To bring it full circle, businesses can use this technology to escort their customers all the way through the sales funnel—from brand awareness to sales and repeat sales, offering support (and collecting data) all along the way. By tracking customer behavior and purchasing patterns from chatbots, brands can gather valuable insight into target markets, product performance, and other business opportunities. The possibilities are endless.

BBM Game Center to Bring Localized Games to Indonesians

girls sms

I’m thrilled to announce our new partnership with Korean game publisher NEOWIZ GAMES Corp. to create the new BBM Game Center. It’s slated to launch later this year.

The BBM Game Center will offer free-to-play, downloadable games you can play with your BBM friends on iOS and Android. NEOWIZ GAMES Corp. is also actively working to source the kinds of games Indonesians play most, and localize them to native Indonesian languages. The BBM Game Center will be the first gaming platform built specifically for Indonesians—and it will become the home of more localized games for other key BBM markets around the world.

This partnership is part of our continuing effort to evolve our Discover menu. We have already launched news, video and re-charge (top-up) services. Games are next!

About the partnership

Established in 2007, NEOWIZ GAMES Corp. is an online game publisher known for widening the spectrum of Korean online games. Through its leading online portal, Pmang.com, it has successfully pioneered the games Special Force, FIFA Online and CrossFire.

B2Games is the name of the joint venture between NEOWIZ GAMES Corp., Mobirix (a global mobile game company) and Avancera (a specialist in Southeast Asian marketing and commerce). This group will develop and run the BBM Game platform.

We’re working together now to build the application programming interface (API) and software developer’s kit (SDK), so that game developers can bring their games to you via BBM.

Games for Indonesians

Among Indonesians, BBM continues to be the most-installed and most commonly-used messaging app—and our users are always looking to do more in it.

Indonesians are also very active gamers. According to the App Annie 2015 Retrospective report, Indonesia has the most active mobile gamers (30.7 million) of all countries in Southeast Asia. And they spend more: of the active gamers, 49% spend money on games, compared to the 45% average for the Southeast Asia region. Strategy and racing games are the top genres that persuade Indonesians to pay.

And yet, most of the games available in the country aren’t offered in native Indonesian languages. That’s why NEOWIZ GAMES Corp. is making efforts to localize games for this growing market—not only offering them in Indonesian, but also sourcing the kind of games Indonesians like the most.

Interested game developers should contact b2games@b2games.com.

A richer BBM experience

We’re excited to work with best-of-breed partners to develop new services and meet the growing demands of our users. BBM Game Center follows the other new services we’ve launched recently in the Discover menu. Stay tuned over the next few months, as we’ll have more announcements like this one, all part of our continuing work to give you a richer social networking experience in your BBM.
